GATE Parent Survey
I sent home a parent survey today.  Actually, I forgot to send it home with period 4, so period 3 students have it right now.  I will send period 4 home tomorrow.  Please answer the questions and send it back by November 8th.
Thank you!
Student of the Month
Congratulations to Katelyn Zabaleta, our October student of the month!!  She is a great kid with a positive attitude, great classroom behavior, and she's a hard worker!  She brought in lots of neat things to showcase on our SOM bulletin board.  Who will be next.....???
Monday, Monday.....
A new day, a new week!  So much to do and so many exciting things on the horizon.
In English we have some big things this week, and by that, I mean we have 3 tests this week!  Yikes!  We are taking a nouns test on Wednesday and a test on "Pigman and Me" on Wednesday.  The kids have notes in their notebooks on Nouns that they can review, and we will be doing small reviews in class each day.  We are doing review assignments on "Pigman" in class today and tomorrow before we test on Wednesday.  On Thursday we are going to start a new group of stories that includes "Names/Nombres".  We will be reading that story for the next week and then have a project on our own names after that.  We will be taking the district common assessment on Friday.
In Social Studies we are studying Hinduism this week.  We read lesson 2 today in our books.  From here we will be starting powerpoint projects on different aspects of Hinduism.  We will probably be working on those through the beginning of next week.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Take care!!
Whew!
It's crazy to think that 1st quarter is already over!!!  Did that time fly by or what?!?
We are starting India now in Social Studies.  We will be studying chapter 7 in our books for about the next 3-4 weeks.  If any of you are from India and find something that you would love to share with us, we'd love to have you come in!!
We are starting nouns in English since we just finished pronouns.  A little backwards, I know, but I'm trying to keep up with the common assessments and be able to spend the time to not rush through anything.  We just started reading "from The Pigman and Me" from our books today.  We'll be reading that story for the next week or so.
I think that's it!  Grades are due tomorrow night by midnight.  I'm working on finishing the pictographs since that is the last major assignment from quarter 1.  I've been updating grades, though, as I go, so if you ever have a question, please let me know.  I also pass the assignments back to the kids, so you can always check their work as well.
Thanks for sending such great kids everyday!!
I'm Here!
Sorry, sorry, that I have not been updating my website!  I actually keep forgetting that we are all up and running.  I am not as good at posting announcements as Mrs. Andreasen is, but I will give it a shot to keep you posted.  Thank you for your patience!!
In English this week we are reading two stories from our English book: "The Circuit" and "Hard as Nails."  Both of these stories are about child labor and we will be working on finding the theme.  We are studying pronouns in grammar and always doing daily grams!  We will be taking an English common assessment at the end of this week.
In Social Studies we are continuing with Mesopotamia.  The kids just received an assignment to create a pictograph system to record their week at school.  So if you happen to see some weird pictures or signs floating around their work, it's their assignment!!  The test for Chapters 3 & 4 is next week, probably towards the end of the week.
Parent Portal
I've had a few students ask about their passwords for parent portal (the grade website).  I talked with Diana Klimpel in records and she said that parents must either come in to the office to receive their passwords or call her on the phone to receive it.  Because of the sensitivity of the information for each student, they want to make sure to keep it as safe as possible.  Diana Klimpel's extension is 42110.
Homework Coop
It's here!!  Homework coop has started!  I passed out the schedule to each of your students, so everybody knows which classrooms are open during which times of the day.  Generally, classrooms are open before school, during lunch, and after school.  Students are welcome to attend homework coop for extra help, or just to have a quiet place to go read if they want.
Please email me if you have any questions.
Scholastic Book Clubs
Hi all!  I just entered all of the orders you sent in over the last week.  One of my students asked for the code to order their books online so I went ahead and set up the parent ordering account in case any of you also wanted to order on your own online.  We are still supposed to get credit for your orders and earn the free books that they send us.
Your code for ordering is: GPRHT.
Let me know if you have any problems and I will check it out!
Thanks!!
